If you get the ‘Setup is unable to connect to SQL Server with the information provided. Verify the following:’ when trying to specify a named SQL instance during SCCM 2012 setup read on….
Check that you have configured the following:
- Collation as SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
- Services Packs
- Cumulative Updates
If all of these are OK, then it is to do with ‘Dynamic Ports’ which is not supported by SCCM and is how SQL assigns ports by default to all named instances. The default instance will be given the standard 1433 however any additional instance will be dynamically assigned a free port.Go into Server configuration, TCP/IP Properties and remove the value from ‘TCP Dynamic Ports’ and specify a port in the ‘TCP Port’ field for all IP’s.
Restart the instance and now all should be well.
